She Muses

An Unexpected End

I just found out that one of my favorite TV series is not returning. It’s been canceled. I did not know any of this until I watched the last episode.

I have been watching Medium for all seven seasons. I enjoyed the different scenarios and cases that Allison Dubois encountered throughout the series. What I especially admired was the love between Joe and Allison.

Of course they had some bumps in the road throughout their time together. I loved how they got through them. I loved Joe’s humor. Their love truly conquered all. It was beautiful.

The series finale almost brought me to tears. It focused on the couples love for each other in my opinion. In this finale Joe dies in a plane crash. Fast forward seven years into the future, Allison is a lawyer working a big case against a drug kingpin. It’s later revealed that Joe did not die in the crash but has been alive with amnesia and has been working for this drug kingpin in Mexico. Allison goes to him, tells him that they were married and have three beautiful daughters. They embrace as if everything is going to be ok…and then she wakes up.

It turns out that Joe did in fact die in the plane crash at the beginning of the episode. He wanted to show Allison that she could in fact live without him and be ok. It was him that sent her that dream. Allison being Allison, she hijacked it and came up with a way to keep Joe alive anyway.

After they’re sad goodbye, fast forward 41 years. Allison is sitting among pictures of her girls and their families. Pictures of them as a family when Joe was alive are seen. Allison dies peacefully. Her younger self looks on at her recently deceased body. Then you hear Joe say “Hi.” He waited for her.

The end of the episode shows the cast saying their goodbyes to the audience individually. I will definitely miss this show.
