Today was the day that I officially took the new wheels out for a spin. I had open dance practice to make and I didn’t want to miss it. The bus that normally runs right in front of my house doesn’t run on the weekend. Go figure. So I swapped out my over the shoulder cloth bag for my backpack, packed my dance shoes, books and other essentials, layered up on the clothing and headed out towards the Metro station.
My legs were screaming at me before I made it to the corner. Sad. Lol. No worries though. I didn’t stop. I kept on pushing and pushing. I lucked out on my way to the Metro Rail. It was mostly a downhill ride which I had absolutely no issues with whatsoever. It was also a beautiful day for a ride. Once I made it to the halfway point I had to pack away my jacket.
Finally made it to the Metro station. Woot woot! I felt revived. Of course, I felt it in my legs. Even though I felt great I was cursing myself a little. Wasn’t I on my way to dance practice? It’s not a good idea to tire out my legs before my hour and a half practice session. SMH. It was all good though. I had the train ride to rest a bit. It was needed.
A few moments later I made it to my stop. I had about half mile left to ride before reaching the studio. That ride was no problem at all. It was all flat. I only had to watch for pedestrians. You see, I was riding on the sidewalk. Probably shouldn’t but I’m not comfortable braving DC traffic yet. I still want to live. Lol.
I was racing with daylight on my way back. To the Metro station was cool. Flat, remember? While on the train we had to sit for a while to let another train clear the track. This bit into my daylight time. By the time I made it to my stop it was already dark. I was hoping not to ride home in the dark but this couldn’t be helped. I rode on.
My total miles for the trip is about five. Two miles to/from the Metro station, a half mile to/from the studio. That’s five miles that I rode today! Well, technically I rode about four to four and a half miles. I will admit that I walked the bike up the seemingly long hill on the last stretch to my place. Don’t judge me! *sticks my tongue out*
Seriously, not a bad ride today. I can tell you that the ride will definitely contribute to me obtaining “Silvia Legs” as named by a dance friend of mine. My cardiovascular will also benefit here. I got the bike mainly for commutes to and from the Metro station. Who knows. I may do a ton more riding in the city. Maybe even some touring later on to see the sites. The possibilities are endless. 🙂
